A picture of me....

This one is making the rounds, but here it is. I'm standing in a raspberry patch at work. Yes, my hands are full of fresh, ripe berries. For anyone who hasn't picked raspberries and eaten them off the vine, JUST DO IT!

The many faces of a farmer.....

One of the questions I get asked a lot is some variation on "what do you do at work?"

That's not the easiest thing in the world to answer. I have a leadership position at the farm, which means that there is a fair amount of typical office type work, as with any business. I am also the primary chemical applicator, which means I must maintain an applicator's license, keep up with laws and regulations for chemical application, and keep records of what is applied when. I do much of the field preparation work, so I spend a lot of time driving tractors. And, I also do whatever else may be needed at any given moment. I rarely take a day off in season, so it's a tiring job, but I wouldn't want to do anything else!

The first post-

Well, here we are. 11:40pm- I couldn't sleep, so I thought I'd get a blog going. I've wanted to do this for some time, but just haven't gotten around to it. Tomorrow I'll get everything set up, in the meantime I need to get some sleep so I can go pick peaches in the morning!
